I have Pi3. It just restarts if I don't do anything with it. But I think that if I watch some channnels it work fine.

I stopped using TV on Kodi on my model 2B. Mine crashed occasionally as well, with or without watching TV.
It seems to be caused by the EPG. You can try to enable it not to update when watching TV channels and not store in local database, it seemed to make it better but still crashed. I'll wait for a stable RPi version of Kodi 17 and for now I find the smarttv app way more stable anyway.

Watch the logs, but this is most likely the EPG being too big for the PI to handle.

In the configuration settings of the Simple IPTV addon. EPG section.

You can also try to use a channel list with just the channels you actually watch. So maybe a list of 200 channels instead of over 4000 :)
I'm going to try this later and i'll post here if it helps at all.

That won't fix the EPG issue however, as the problem is the simple iptv addon use too much memory trying to parse the XML file.

You could try to use another addon to handle the EPG.

What other addon for Kodi can handle IPTV or EPG?

If you have only 220 channels, did you alter your list? I think it only checks EPG for the channels in your list, did not check this myself yet.

I'm not sure about the addon, I bookmared this (https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread-1102.html) last week, but didn't took the time to try it out.
Another solution would be to split the EPG into multiple list and to automatically create a merge for several package (instead of having a huge epg, you could download a UK+US+DE list in example) ...

About the second question, even if you only have 5 channels in your channel list, the whole EPG file will still be parsed by the addon, which is the issue with the RPI.

After making some test, the issue seems to be either with the download of the xml.gz file, or the unzip of it.

To fix it, just configure your xml file (gunzipped) as a local storage file, and create a cron script to download and extract it daily (here is my crontab :

    Code:
    0 3 * * * wget http://secure.clientportal.link/epg/guide.xml.gz -O /tmp/guide.xml.gz && gunzip -f /tmp/guide.xml.gz -c > /storage/guide.xml
This will download and extract RapidIPTV's EPG at 3am every day, and store the file in /storage/guide.xml.
You can then load it normally with Simple IPTV Client.

Thank you. Will try this hopefully it works however, Kodi crashes when a channel is offline as well. Like for example 13th street NL has been down for sometime now and when you try it Kodi just restarts. This make me think that the addon onitself is also very unstable. The smarttv app just gives an error.
