    Hello,

I use the Nvidia Shield TV to watch Rapid IPTV on my television, a Sharp LC-22le240e. When watching English SD channels, the picture is always 100% smooth. However, that isn't the case when watching HD channels. On HD channels during football, for example, the ball always flickers and become quite fuzzy when it moves quickly, which makes it nearly unwatchable.

I had this issue before on my Minix Neo X8-H Plus as well, so maybe it''s related to my TV then? Is there anything I can do to fix it, please? Could it be the Soap Opera Effect, or exists that issue only on 4K TV's?

    Thanks in advance!

Thanks, harryporter! Your article is great and very clear, so I know now what's exactly going on.

However, my Sharp TV is one of their cheapest models. So could it be that there are no settings to turn off the Soap Opera Effect? At least, I can't find then, and I've looked everywhere in the menu's.

    Thanks in advance!

Film Mode (optional)• : Films are recorded at a different number of frames per second to normal television programmes. Press “” or “ ” buttons to select Film mode. Press “ ” or “ ” buttons to set this feature Auto or Off. Turn this feature to Auto when you are watching fi lms to see the fast motion scenes clearly.

    Thanks, harryporter!

I indeed changed film mode from 'Off' to 'Auto', but the issue is still there.

You can play with the deinterlace settings in KODi/Spmc

    Yadif2 or Bob.
    I use Bob.

Thanks, Schamlos! Bob deinterlacing makes it slightly better, although SD is still way smoother than HD. And personally, I'm not a big fan of Kodi/SPMC, it's too unstable and too slow for IPTV if you ask me.

Instead, I prefer Smart IPTV or Perfect Player. However, with these apps I have another problem: the picture of SD feeds always freezes after 20 minutes, but the audio is still there after that time. It only happens in Smart IPTV and Perfect Player on the Shield TV, while via Kodi/SPMC on Shield TV and VLC on PC it's fine.

So, it would be great if someone know how to fix the freezing issues in Smart IPTV and Perfect Player, please? As long as SD works fine, I don't even care about HD. :)

Actually, I don't think the issue is the so called Soap Opera Effect, I think it has something to do with the FPS of the channels, isn't it?

I mean, I had exactly the same issue with another IPTV provider. But recently, they upgraded some of their channels from 25 FPS to 50 FPS and for these specific channels the issue is now gone.

The problem is the SOE of course and with higher frequency of channels SOE will damp.

So you basically say, with SOE turned off on the TV, an 25 FPS stream acts like 50 FPS, isn't it?

No, I said that you won't see shadows with SOE turned off.
